Here are the questions small businesses commonly ask me about websites, hosting, domains, e-commerce, software and ongoing support.
How much does a website cost?
My fixed-price website packages currently start from £199. The final cost depends on the number of pages, design requirements and any additional functionality. More complex features such as online shops, databases, payment processing, member areas or bespoke software are quoted according to the work involved.
Is hosting included?
Hosting is priced separately unless a package specifically says it is included. I offer hosting from £6.99 per month, with Business, E-commerce and bespoke hosting priced according to the site's traffic, storage and technical requirements. Website + Hosting bundles are also available.
What about a domain name?
I can help register and configure a domain. Domain names are advertised from £14.99 per year, with the exact price depending on the extension, availability and registrar renewal cost.
Will I own my website?
Ownership and any licensing or third-party service requirements will be set out clearly in your quote. For a normal fixed-price website, the intention is that the completed website is yours once the agreed balance has been paid, subject to any third-party licences or services used.
How long does a website take?
Timescales vary. A straightforward brochure website can usually be completed much faster than an online shop or a project involving custom software and databases. I will give you a realistic estimate once I know the scope and have the content needed to begin.
How many revisions are included?
The number of revision rounds depends on the package or quote. I will confirm this before work begins so you know what is included and what would count as additional work.
Can you redesign my existing website?
Yes. I can review the existing site, keep anything worth retaining and modernise the design, mobile experience, structure, performance and calls to action.
Can you run the website for me after launch?
Yes. Aftercare and Website Management plans are available if you want me to remain involved with updates, content changes, backup checks, website health, basic SEO/performance monitoring and support.
Do you build online shops?
Yes. I can build e-commerce sites with product catalogues, baskets, checkout, secure payment-provider integration, customer accounts and suitable hosting. Where needed, I can also develop connected stock, order, customer or reporting software.
Can you add password-protected login areas?
Yes. Websites can include secure customer, member, staff or administrator login areas where required. The exact security and permissions are designed around the project.
Do you store customers' card details?
Normally no. Payment details should be handled by the selected secure payment provider rather than stored directly by the website. The exact payment flow depends on the chosen provider and project requirements.
What kind of software can you build?
I can develop practical business tools such as customer databases, booking systems, stock control, quoting and invoicing tools, dashboards, workflow systems, reporting tools and bespoke internal applications.
Do you guarantee first place on Google?
No reputable designer can guarantee a particular search-engine position. I can build solid SEO foundations, improve structure and performance, and help set up tools such as Search Console, but rankings depend on many factors and change over time.
Still not sure?
Send me your question. I would rather explain the options clearly than sell you something you do not need.
